Here’s to health! (And trying something new!)
Over the past few weeks, I have discovered an interest in learning about how we feed our bodies – specifically, about how what we eat (or don’t eat) has short- and long-term effects on how we feel and how well our body can fight off illness and disease.
Cleansing, fasting, detoxing…let’s be honest, none of it sounds as good as a Chick-Fil-A deluxe sandwich with a cookies and cream milkshake, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
In the past, I have tried living that low-carb life but found that long-term restrictive diets do not work for me, because I am not trying to lose significant weight and I am not interested in forming an unhealthy relationship with eating.
I was immediately attracted to the idea of three-to-five day cleanse/fast/detox programs, because they tick many of my boxes:
- Easy to follow. This Type A gal loves a clear set of rules.
- Fast results. You can feel results quickly, which pairs nicely with the delayed gratification of physical exercise.
- Intentional. These programs highlight overindulgence and other behaviors you may wish to curb.
- Inexpensive. My health goals sit on the same priority level as my financial goals, so I will be looking for options that have minimal negative impact on my budget.
Over the next couple of months, I am hoping to try a few different methods of short-term cleanses, fasts, and detox programs. I will be learning on the fly and plan to focus primarily on how it makes me feel (short-term benefits) while sharing what I learn about the longer-term benefits as well. Suggestions welcome for any programs that you have tried or eyed!
